Freeze Dance iOS Shortcut
***Note: This only works on iOS devices, and only with Apple Music.***
This is an iOS Shortcut that will play freeze dance using your Apple Music library. You can select an entire playlist, or just a couple songs from a playlist, and this Shortcut will randomly pause and play the song after saying "Freeze!".
As a father of three, I was looking for a freeze dance in the App Store but surprisingly couldn't find anything. So, I decided to make it myself using iOS’s built-in Shortcuts app.
This is kid-tested and approved, and gives my 10, 6, and 2 year old both an opportunity to burn some energy as well as actually play together!
What do I get?
Upon purchase, you will receive a PDF file containing a download link and instructions.
How do I use it?
The instructions will be in more detail, but the steps are:
- Launch the Shortcut from the iOS Shortcuts app. If you don't have it installed, or removed it because you had never used it, you can download it again for free from the App Store. Always check to ensure iOS device compatibility first. You can also say "Hey Siri, let's play freeze dance" instead.
- Apple Music will launch, and you'll be prompted to choose any playlist you've saved to your library, then press the "+" icon near the top right corner. Alternatively, you can multi-select individual songs if you don't want to play the entire playlist.
- Sit back and enjoy! The Shortcut will pause and play at random intervals, and speak "Freeze!" at the appropriate time (voice can be modified in the shortcut, if you're comfortable doing so).
- The shortcut will play the entirety of your playlist, or your chosen set, and then stop. If you want to stop freeze dance yourself, you can do so by stopping this shortcut from the Shortcuts app, or from your iPhone's "Dynamic Island" (that bar around the front-facing camera that grows and shrinks with different displays).
Disclaimer
Again, this is an iOS Shortcut so it only works on iOS devices. Additionally, it is only set up to work with Apple Music, which has its own monthly subscription.
You'll get a PDF containing detailed instructions and a link to download the iOS shortcut. You can install this on your device, or any of your direct family's - but if you'd like to share it with someone else who you think might enjoy, I respectfully ask you share this product page.
